Just like every new year, one of the things we promise ourselves is to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Whether it’s keeping fit or eating right, as the days pass, we find ourselves tempted to slowly go back to those bad habits and stay away from those positive habits that we promised ourselves we would adopt.
When it comes to sports, it’s often hard to find the motivation we desperately need to just do it {just like NIKE tells us to do 😎 } – finding a sports activity we can enjoy and maintain it over time; but the real problem is maintaining a proper diet, since it’s one of the main ingredients to maintain a healthy weight or reach weight goals we all fantasize about.
Even if we manage to maintain a permanent order of meals and eat healthy and organized meals most of the day {which isn’t an easy task in itself – so well done to us!}, the little traps are usually the ones that steer us out of balance. A toast at work, a night out at a bar with friends or even when meeting friends at home – all of these add a lot of extra calories that you wouldn’t be putting in your mouth if you thought twice.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m really not into asceticism {if you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, I’m sure you’ve noticed 😋 } – and I also enjoy high-calorie cocktails and desserts occasionally at restaurants; but when I host at my house, or stay with friends and I’m asked to prepare something to nibble on – I’ll always go for the healthy option, without compromising on the taste, of course. And especially during the winter, is there something more fun than arranging fun nights with friends at home along with good food that won’t make us feel guilty?

I’ve always loved the idea of “finger food” in general, and of appetizers pallets in particular. Platters of vegetables, cold meats and cheeses arranged aesthetically always make me want to snack. The problem is that most of these innocent-looking platters {relatively to hamburgers or pizza, that is} are full of meat and cheeses and accompanied by bread that’s too hard to resist.
The real challenge is to make healthier platter at home, which should be appealing and equally delicious as their fattening sisters {and even more!}.
This is exactly where my healthy hosting platter comes in: not only is it made from fresh vegetables, easy to make homemade dips and the exact quantity of whole-carbs {because let’s face it – it’s hard to please us without some carbs, so they might as well be the good kind 😉 } – it’s also the most impressive, so no one can remain indifferent to it.
Oh – and no less important, it doesn’t take a long time to prepare it {yes, including the homemade dips that take just a few minutes to prepare!}.

Before I get to my platter’s ingredients and to the recipes for the dips, let me give you a few tips to ensure your homemade platter will look as if you took it straight out of Pinterest :
1. The base – the dish which you will serve all of the delicacies on will guide the design style of your platter. If you want to go for a rustic style you should choose a platter made from natural wood or a homemade ceramic dish {or even go all out and arrange all of the elements directly on the table – I saw that Jamie Oliver did it, and it looks great!}. On the other hand, if you’re more into the clean and modern look you should choose a marble surface without unnecessary decorations.
2. Accessories – a combination of small bowls and jars will add a dimension of height and make the platter more interesting.
3. Colors – The most beautiful and most appealing platters are those that combine a variety of vegetables and dips in different colors. For the most beautiful result, combine at least five colors in the platter {and this way you’ll also enjoy the health powers of the colored vegetables}.
